Summer Intensive Program 2011

 

Young Dancer Intensive: July 11 - 22, 2011


Dayton Ballet's Young Dancer Intensive program is a two week, half-day camp for Level II (9-10 yrs.) and Level III (11-13 yrs.).  Classes will be offered in Ballet Technique, Pointe barre, Modern, Jazz and Character. 

The July 11 -15 session of Young Dancer Intensive will take place at the downtown Dayton branch of the Dayton Ballet School, located on the 4th floor of the Victoria Theatre, 140 N. Main St.

The July 18 - 22 session of Young Dancer Intensive will be at the SSK South school, located at 849 South Main Street in Centerville.


Summer Intensive: July 18 - August 12



The Summer Intensive is a four week, half-day training program for the serious young dancer.  Classes are available for students in Ballet IV and V/Advanced levels.  The program emphasizes training in Ballet Technique, Pointe/Variations, Jazz, Modern and Theatre dance. 

All Summer Intensive classes will be held at the downtown Dayton studios, located on the 4th floor of the Victoria Theatre, 140 N. Main St.

This session includes an In-Studio Performance on Friday, August 12 at 3PM at the Dayton Ballet Studios, featuring Level IV and V/Advanced students.


Additional Summer Classes: at SSK South School:   July 18 - August 12


Classes in Creative Movement (ages 3-4 yrs.), Pre-Ballet (ages 5-6 yrs.) and Ballet I (7-8 yrs) are held on Mondays at the SSK South Branch of the Dayton Ballet School.

Adult Ballet classes are also held on Mondays at 6:30 PM.

Zumba Dance class is held on Monday and Saturday mornings at 10AM.

Karen Russo Burke| Artistic Director

dermont burkeKaren Russo Burke is the new Artistic Director for Dayton Ballet. Karen danced professionally with American Repertory Ballet for eleven years. .She also taught in the Princeton Ballet School until she moved to Dayton 19 years ago. In Dayton, Karen has served Dayton Ballet as Dayton Ballet II Senior Company Director, Dayton Ballet Company's Ballet Mistress and has choreographed several critically acclaimed ballets such as A Streetcar Named Desire, Canyons, Hyding Inside, Freudian Slip and Eve of Frankenstein.

William R. Hoppe, Jr. | Guest Faculty

William Hoppe


William Hoppe is a current member of the Dayton Ballet Company. He studied at the Virginia School of the Arts, Houston Ballet and with American Ballet Theatre in New York.  William has studied with many of ballet’s best teachers, such as Edward Villelia, Violette Verdy and Stephen Mills, to name a few.  William is an experienced ballet teacher and has taught at many well-known ballet schools across the country.

Rodney Veal |Guest Faculty

Rodney Veal

Rodney Veal is an independent choreographer.  Rodney serves as an adjunct faculty member for both Stivers School for the Performing Arts and Sinclair Community College.  He has received numerous grants and commissions for his choreography as well as a co-founder of the Blue Sky Project program at the University of Dayton.  He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Choreography from The Ohio State University and will be teaching the ballet and modern classes for the Dayton Ballet’s Summer and Young Dancer Intensive programs.

Fees:

A $10 non-refundable deposit is required for Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Ballet I and Adult Ballet classes.

A $25 non-refundable deposit is required for Young Dancer Intensive and Summer Intensive classes.

Dayton Ballet has a no refund policy.
